CASE REPORT Probable Post-Influenza Cerebellitis

چکیده
The nucleoprotein (NP) gene of type B influenza virus was detected by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) from the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) of a patient presenting with ataxia due to cerebellitis. The CSFwas obtained 7 and 9 weeks after flu syndrome occurred, suggesting persistence of viral genes in the central nervous system (CNS). Although an unusually high serum hemagglutination inhibition (HI) titer against influenza virus B was noted, HI titers of the CSFwere not elevated. (Internal Medicine 36: 747-749, 1997)

متن کاملA Rare Cause of Childhood Cerebellitis-Influenza Infection: A Case Report and Systematic Review of Literature
Acute cerebellitis is a benign neurologic condition generally caused by viral or bacterial infections. Influenza associated cerebellitis is extremely rare; a 6-year-old boy with acute cerebellitis, who presented with fever, vomiting, weakness, febrile seizure, and acute cerebellar features, is discussed in this article.

INTRODUCTION Post-infectious cerebellitis is an acute form of inflammatory encephalitis mainly limited to the cerebellum. It is commonly found in children, especially after viral infections such as Epstein-Barr virus. Post-infectious cerebellitis presents with acute onset dysarthria and ataxia. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case report of post-infectious cerebellitis in a pati...
متن کاملAcute cerebellitis associated with dual influenza A (H1N1) and B infection.
We describe the case of a 6-year old girl who presented to our Emergency Department (ED) with acute onset of ataxia and speech disturbance. Investigative workup included a nasopharyngeal aspirate (NPA) which was influenza A (H1N1) and B positive during the 2010/2011 influenza season. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the brain confirmed findings consistent with cerebellitis.
